It's almost Koi season, our 2026 Koi buying trip is here!
It’s time for our koi buying trip. In just a few days, we will embark on our highly anticipated 2026 Koi hand-pick expedition. It has been some time since we were last able to explore the farms and personally select our preferred koi. This year promises to be an exciting opportunity to view the koi in person and reconnect with all the breeders and fish farm staff.
We're hand picking prestigious Koi that have never been offered for sale before
We are pleased to announce an exclusive opportunity to select from a very secretive Tosai koi selection from distinguished koi farms. These exceptional koi are kept away from the public eye until they have reached their full potential, with some koi having never been offered for sale before. The specific varieties and quantities of koi available for selection will be determined upon our arrival.
These koi are truly remarkable, and we are delighted to offer them to you for the very first time. Additionally, we have already secured many koi varieties, including the Doitsu Ochiba Shigure koi. With its stunning autumn hues and exceptional quality skin, this koi has quickly become a favourite among our clientele this koi season.

What's changed for this Koi trip?
There have been quite some changes across the koi farms here. With the ever changing koi market there seems to have been a dramatic increase in demand for High grade Tosai koi. In case you not aware, a Tosai koi is a fish which is under 1 year old and has yet to reach its full maturity. High grade Tosai koi are selected by the breeder often displaying excellent growth which is one major factor which has increased the high demand.

This segment of the trip is of significant importance and is highly anticipated for this koi season. Over the past year, we have responded to market demand by further expanding our already substantial inventory of smaller koi. While sales of our larger koi have remained robust, we have observed a noteworthy uptick in the sales of Tosai koi. We have procured a selection of exceptionally high-quality koi, leading us to choose a limited number of koi for continued growth. This approach has proven successful, with the majority of selected koi exceeding 30cm in length, originally chosen from our stock of 12-15cm sized koi.

What's New in Koi Farming?
The short answer is, quite a lot has changed. The year 2025 witnessed significant advancements in farming techniques in this region. Previously, koi farms relied heavily on cultivating koi in expansive outdoor mud ponds. However, modern and sophisticated indoor greenhouse facilities are now leading the way in koi production. The primary and undeniable motivation for this shift is to enhance koi quality for keepers. Reflecting on the past, the use of large open mud ponds resulted in substantial losses of fry due to various challenges. The principal threat to fry came from the increasing number of migratory birds in the area, which have been rising annually along with their feeding requirements. The farms are home to several fish-eating predator birds, including the exquisite Kingfisher.

Because of the uncontrollable threats from the very growing number of birds, the koi farms have invested heavily in some state of the art purpose built indoor facilities. These large koi greenhouses are used to house massive recirculation systems. Fish are spawned then reared in the many huge raised ponds. With computers constantly checking all water parameters and 24 hour care these fish are truly pampered. Growth rates, varieties and quality are constantly monitored by the breeders. With more than a 25% increase in production this gives the breeders a much wider selection and larger numbers of high Quality koi. Both Madankoi and Hazorea Aquatics house all there Tosai koi indoors and are truly leading the way in growing koi indoors.
